Of all of the vacation desserts I make, trifles are my father-in-law’s favourite. He simply adores the tender cake and the whipped cream and pudding. He likes it better than cake he says because frostings are too candy, however trifles are the precise marriage of creaminess and wet cake.


INGREDIENTS:
For the Cake:

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream

For the whipped cream:

  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 2 cups heavy cream

For garnish:

  • 1 tablespoon semi-sweet baking chocolate, grated
  • 2 Peppermint candy canes, crushed
